Morocco’s victory ensured they became the first ever team in the tournament’s history to secure three titles. Moreover, the courageous display from the Atlas Lions players solidified Morocco’s place at the summit of African football.

Morocco, who won the prestigious CHAN trophy in the 2018 and 2020 editions, found themselves trailing Madagascar 1-0 within just eight minutes.

The opening goal of the historic match that was attended by FIFA President Gianni Infantino came after a lovely exchange of passes between Madagascar’s players, which was completed by Toky Rakotondraibe.

Oussama Lamlioui puts the Atlas Lions in control

Oussama Lamlioui, who sat at the top of the CHAN 2024 top scorers race with four goals before this final, received the ball inside Madagascar’s penalty box before directing it into the net to give Morocco a 2-1 lead.

The goal, which send the Atlas Lions fans into wild celebrations, brought Lamlioui’s tally to five goals and made him the favorite to win the prestigious Golden Boot award.

The 29-year-old scored a picture perfect goal in the 80th to give his nation a 3-2 lead. The goal also guaranteed him the Golden Boot award since Morocco managed to hold onto their slim lead and secured the CHAN title at the end.
