Fast-rising Faith Cherotich was in a league of her own as she successfully defended her Diamond League trophy in the women’s 3000 meter steeplechase race in Zurich, Switzerland on Thursday night.

The 21-year-old left everyone in her wake as she was the only athlete to clock under 9 minutes in the race, clocking 8:57.24 to signal her form heading into the Tokyo World Championships 2025 slated for 13-21 September.

“This means a lot to me. I am happy with the win because I won last time as well. This really motivates me for the finals in Tokyo which is my ambition.

At this stage we are already at world level, so, for now I feel that I am ok and the only thing that is in my mind is to perform the best I can. For these last 2 weeks ahead of Tokyo I will joining my training group in Kenya for a last training camp,” she said after the race.

Norah Jeruto from Kazakhstan came second after clocking 9:10.87 ahead of Tunisia’s Marwa Bouzayani who timed 9:12.03.
