Kenyan speedster Emmanuel Wanyonyi will be one of the main attractions in the eagerly awaited Lausanne Diamond League 2025 that is planned to be held in Switzerland on Wednesday, August 20, 2025. The Paris Olympic Games 800m gold medalist will compete in his favorite discipline against a stellar field that has the likes of the reigning world champion Marco Arop of Canada and Josh Hoey from the United States.

Wanyonyi, who has secured several Wanda Diamond League titles this season, disclosed his main mission in Lausanne.

According to the Kosirai Secondary School alumni, he will be aiming to lower his lifetime best on Wednesday.

“Rudisha is my friend. I remember last year, Rudisha told me, ‘This is your time to shine.’ Rudisha managed to run 1:41 seven times, while I have run 1:41 four times.

So, I have time to improve. Now, I want to improve my personal best and then think about world records, but not now,” he explained during the pre-race press conference that took place on Tuesday.

Wanyonyi explains why Lausanne Diamond League is special

When asked what makes Lausanne Diamond League special for him, Wanyonyi replied that he enjoys the support from the spectators.

As stated by the athlete, who celebrated his 21st birthday earlier this month, the fans in Lausanne are unique.

“Last year, I came after the Paris Olympic Games. I told my coach to let me come and try to run my best. Then I surprised myself by running 1:41.11; that’s my personal best (PB), which is amazing for me.

I feel very happy when I am here. The fans are special. The crowd is so good for me,” commented the highly-rated athlete.

A win for Wanyonyi at Lausanne Diamond League 2025 will improve his confidence ahead of the Tokyo World Athletics Championships which is scheduled to take place in Japan from September 13 to September 21. In Tokyo, the Kenyan will be aiming to bag his first ever 800m world title. Arop heads to Tokyo as the 800m defending champion.
