Harambee Stars CHAN 2024
  • The Kenya vs Zambia tickets went live on Tuesday at 1:00 AM.
  • By 7:00 AM, the tickets were completely sold out.
  • Only 27,000 tickets were made available for the game following a CAF directive to limit capacity due to previous security breaches.

Tickets for the highly anticipated Kenya versus Zambia Group A Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 clash were sold out just hours after they went on sale.

The tickets went live at 1am on Tuesday and were all sold by 7am, according to Mookh, the official vendor authorized to handle ticket sales for CHAN 2024 in Kenya.

The speedy sale could be attributed to the reduced crowd capacity expected at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani on Sunday when Kenya face Zambia in their last pool clash.

A significant blow was dealt to the Kenyan side as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) enforced a fan restriction, slashing the stadium capacity from its full 48,053 capacity to just 27,000 fans.

This restriction follows a series of security breaches during previous Harambee Stars matches held at the same venue.

As a result, CAF has implemented stricter measures for the upcoming tie scheduled for Sunday, August 17, at 8:00 PM EAT.

One key directive is the elimination of physical ticketing as only electronic tickets will be accepted for entry.

CAF’s official statement issued Monday evening outlined the following mandatory protocols for all Kenya home fixtures at Kasarani:

  1. Capacity restriction: Maximum 60% of stadium capacity (27000 tickets).
  2. Ticketing: Entry strictly limited to electronic ticket holders; thermal tickets prohibited.
  3. Public accountability & compliance campaign: LOC and government to launch a public media campaign reinforcing safety protocols and entry requirements,” CAF announced.

Kenya vs Zambia ticket prices

Ordinary tickets were priced at KSh 200 while VIP (Silver) tickets went for KSh 500.

Over the last three fixtures at MISC Kasarani, Kenyan supporters have been pivotal, acting as the “12th man” in thrilling encounters.

The debut match against DR Congo saw 88% attendance, with Kenya securing a narrow 1–0 victory.

Their second game against Angola ended in a hard-fought 1–1 draw despite playing with ten men under floodlights.

In their most recent outing, Kenya stunned two-time champions Morocco with a 1–0 win, again with a man down.

Unfortunately, the match was marred by widespread security breaches as ticketless fans overwhelmed the gates, a situation that likely prompted CAF’s stringent intervention.

With only 27,000 seats available for the Zambia showdown, the select fans in attendance will carry the nation’s hopes, aiming to propel the Harambee Stars to an unbeaten run into the quarterfinals.

A win would not only solidify their top spot but also secure a KSh 2.5 million bonus promised by President William Ruto.

Alternative ways to catch the action without Kenya vs Zambia tickets

Fans without tickets are urged to watch the match live on KBC Channel One or the designated fan zones that will be set up by Football Kenya Federation and the CHAN 2024 Local Organizing Committee.

Meanwhile, for football lovers still eager to witness top-tier action, tickets for the DR Congo vs Morocco clash; scheduled for the same day at Nyayo Stadium are still available.

While ordinary tickets are sold out, VIP tickets priced at KSh 500 remain on sale. Given the stakes, this fixture also promises to be a blockbuster encounter.
