Donald Trump, the President of the United States of America, known for his solid stands has thrown his hat into the hotly contested debate on the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) player in the men’s football sector.
When asked to name his greatest player of all time, Trump’s choice sidestepped the common Cristiano Ronaldo vs Lionel Messi discussions.
Trump names greatest footballer of all time
According to him, the late Brazilian magician Edson Arantes do Nascimento, popularly known as Pele, is the best player to have ever played the beautiful game.

“So, many years ago when I was young, they brought a player named Pele to play. And he played for a team called the Cosmos. And Steve Ross, a friend of mine, Warner Communication. He was the inspiration behind. And this place was packed.
It was an earlier version of this stadium, but right here in the Meadowlands. And it was Pele. I don’t want to date myself, but that was a long time ago. I was a young guy. And I came to watch Pele and he was fantastic. So, I’d say, probably I’ll go the old fashion. That’s like saying Babe Ruth. I would say Pele was so great,” explained Trump.

The 79-year-old made the revelations during the recently held FIFA Club World Cup final 2025 that was staged at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
Trump, who enjoys golf, was among the tens of thousands of people who attended the game where Premier League side Chelsea FC walloped the reigning UEFA Champions League winners PSG 3-0.
Chelsea scored their goals via Cole Palmer and Brazilian Joao Pedro to prove their doubters wrong and lift the coveted trophy. Palmer netted a brace in that memorable clash.

Apart from Trump making public his GOAT, he also surprised many fans when he joined Chelsea during the trophy lifting celebration despite being requested by the FIFA President Gianni Infantino to leave the stage.
