Olympic Games champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi added another glorious chapter to his promising running career at the Monaco Diamond League 2025 on Friday, July 11.
Wanyonyi, known for his powerful kick, outmaneuvered a star-studded field that had the likes of Canada’s Marco Arop and Algeria’s Djamel Sedjati to win the 800m title.
He outpaced his competitors at the final stages of the race, crossing the finishing line in a world lead and meeting record time of 1:41.44.

Wanyonyi was followed by Josh Hoey and Sedjati, who clocked personal best and season best times of 1:42.01 and 1:42.20 respectively.
Femke Bol shines in 400m hurdles at Monaco Diamond League 2025
In another race, Dutch runner Femke Bol produced a superb performance to win the 400m hurdles women’s race.

Bol ran away with the title in a world lead time of 51.95 in a race that United States representatives Dalilah Muhammad and Anna Cockrell finished second and third in that order.
Muhammad clocked 52.58 while Cockrell crossed the finishing line at 52.91, which was season bests time for both of them.
Nelly Chepchirchir secures 1000m title at Monaco Diamond League 2025 as Mary Moraa struggles
Elsewhere, Kenya’s Nelly Chepchirchir escaped with the 1000m title at the Monaco Diamond League 2025.
Chepchirchir, who trains in Kapsabet, was followed by Addison Wiley and Jessica Hull.
Wiley, an American citizen, managed a time of 2:30.71 to finish ahead of Hull. The Australian clocked 2:30.96.
Meanwhile, the current 800m world champion Mary Moraa, finished last in that epic 1000m race. She crossed the finishing line in a season best time of 2:48.67.

Wanyonyi, Moraa and the rest of the athletes will take the lessons learnt from the Monaco Diamond League, and make the necessary adjustments ahead of the Tokyo World Athletics Championships 2025 that will be held from September 13.
