The upcoming second friendly match between Harambee Stars and Chad at the Stade de Marrakech in Morocco presents a pivotal moment for Kenya’s head coach Benni McCarthy.
Despite giving it all, McCarthy is yet to guide Harambee Stars to a win since his appointment in March this year.
Since landing the Harambee Stars job, McCarthy has registered two draws and a single defeat.

In his first match, Kenya played to a 3-3 draw with the Gambia in an entertaining 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier encounter that was staged in Ivory Coast.
Harambee Stars were then beaten 2-1 by the Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang-inspired Gabon in another FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifier staged at the Nyayo National Stadium.
The national men’s football team went on to play to a barren draw with Chad in a friendly match that took place on Thursday, June 7.
Therefore, as the Harambee Stars players battle it out with their Chad counterparts, all eyes will be on McCarthy to see whether he can finally guide the team to a victory.
Speaking ahead of the showdown, McCarthy acknowledged that they could have done much better in last week’s encounter.
According to him, they have no one to blame but themselves for missing numerous goal scoring chances.
“For me the biggest disappointment is the fact that we didn’t score because we had so many opportunities and I don’t want to say the referee didn’t give this penalty or the referee didn’t give that decision.
I think the game was so far beyond them. It was so easy for us to not blame the referee,” explained the South African citizen.
