Gor Mahia
  • Kenya Police head coach Etienne Ndayiragije is confident they will make history, and Gor Mahia have no chance of denying them the top-flight title.
  • Police need only one point to be crowned champions.
  • The two remaining matches are against Shabana and Gor Mahia.

Kenya Police head coach Etienne Ndayiragije is confident that Gor Mahia stands no chance of defeating his side in the final match, should it turn out to be the league decider.

Police FC are on the brink of making history as they close in on their maiden top-flight title, needing just a single point from their remaining two fixtures to secure the championship.

Despite fellow title contenders Gor Mahia’s interim coach Zedekiah Otieno having effectively conceded the race following a frustrating 1-1 stalemate against AFC Leopards, Ndayiragije insists his side must remain focused.

The job is not done yet – Police still need to collect that crucial point either against Shabana or Gor Mahia.

Should they falter unexpectedly and Gor Mahia win both their games, the title could be decided by goal difference, in which K’Ogalo currently hold the advantage.

Why Gor Mahia have no chance of winning the league

With only a draw required from their final two outings, Ndayiragije remains supremely optimistic that they will secure the necessary point on June 15 against Shabana at Kenyatta Stadium, thereby clinching the 2024/25 Football Kenya Federation Premier League title.

Gor Mahia have no chance of winning the league, and not even a miracle can stop us from claiming the title. We are going to make history and win the league against Shabana, so we can play our last game against them without pressure,” the Police coach told Daily Nation.

The Burundian tactician, exuding confidence in his formidable squad, emphasized that even if the title comes down to the final clash, Gor Mahia would still be outmatched.

We are winning the league in the Shabana game. Gor, with their current squad, cannot beat my team. They have no chance against us, even if the last game were to decide the title,” Ndayiragije confidently noted.

Since taking over in November last year when Police languished at the bottom of the table, Ndayiragije has really transformed the team’s fortunes.

Under his stewardship, the club has played 30 matches, winning 18, drawing 7, and losing just 5. They also reached the FKF Cup quarter-finals.

The mood in our camp is one of excitement, and every player is happy. We are on the verge of writing history. It has taken a lot of sacrifice and individual effort, and now all that remains is to make it a reality in our next match,” Etienne reiterated.
