FKF Cup
  • Nairobi United edged Mara Sugar 1(3) – 1(1) on penalties in the FKF Cup semifinal held on Sunday, June 1, at Dandora Stadium.
  • They will now face Gor Mahia in the Cup final.
  • Muyoti cautioned against premature celebration, emphasizing that the journey is not yet over. He urged his players to stay focused and remain unfazed by their upcoming opponents.

Nairobi United head coach Nicholas Muyoti believes his players are hungry for silverware and is confident they will win over Gor Mahia in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup final.

Having eliminated three top-tier sides – Tusker FC, KCB, and Kakamega Homeboyz in the earlier rounds, the NaiBois secured their historic place in the final after edging out Mara Sugar 1(3) – 1(1) in a penalty shootout.

The National Super League (NSL) champions-elect, who have already secured promotion to the Premier League next season, are eager to carve their name in the annals of Kenyan football by clinching the prestigious title.

A victory would also see them represent Kenya in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.

Speaking after their semi-final win, former AFC Leopards midfielder Muyoti praised his players for their determination and resilience, acknowledging Mara Sugar’s strong performance.

I thank God for everything. The boys have really played well today; they are really determined. Congratulations to Mara Sugar and I think they have really played a good match. We tried, but I still think our opposition was really good,” Muyoti explained.

He further highlighted that reaching the final especially after eliminating top-flight giants, demonstrates their readiness to compete at the highest level.

This win means the boys are really ready for the top flight. When you look at how they have played and eliminated the top teams, I think it’s wonderful. And as the coach, you just feel good to see that. I think this is really a big plus for the team. I think the confidence is very high, and I hope they continue like that going into the Cup final,” he added.

Muyoti confident of upsetting Gor Mahia in FKF Cup final

Muyoti cautioned against premature celebration, emphasizing that the journey is not over yet. He insisted that his players remain focused and undeterred by their opponents.

First of all, the time for celebration is not yet. Where we have reached and where we are aiming – there is still a journey. Just as I said, these boys are really thirsty for a cup, so it does not matter who is coming next. If it’s Gor Mahia, we will just go down with them,” he reiterated.

Currently leading the NSL standings with 62 points, Nairobi United will now shift their attention to their upcoming league fixture against SS Assad this weekend, aiming to finish the season in dominant fashion.
