Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga announced his departure from Qatari-based side Al Duhail SC on Thursday, May 29, 2025, ending a successful four and half year chapter.

During his stint with Al Duhail, Olunga scored many beautiful goals including hat-tricks that contributed to the club’s trophy collection

In his emotional farewell message, Olunga stated that he enjoyed his time with the club.

“I have really enjoyed my time here in Al-Duhail football club and to play for this amazing team, it has been a really good journey, amazing memories that we have shared together. Also some sad memories that we have endured together.

But all in all, I have really enjoyed my time here in this beautiful club. Today, I leave with my head held high, so proud of the achievements that I have done for this great football club,” he commented.

Olunga managed to win two Qatar Stars League golden boot awards in the four seasons that he spent at Al Duhail.

The Technical University of Kenya graduate became the league’s top scorer for the first time in his maiden season.

Olunga, who has been one of the most reliable Harambee Stars players in recent years, scored 24 goals in the 2021-2022 season to bag the coveted award.

He went on to clinch his second golden boot award in the 2022/23 season where he found the back of the net 22 times.

Although he was not crowned the top scorer, Olunga also had a fantastic 2023/24 season which saw him net 16 league goals in just 18 appearances.

Besides collecting two Qatar Stars League top scorers awards, Olunga also laid his hands on the prestigious AFC Champions League golden boot award during his spell with Al Duhail.

The powerful forward scored nine goals in just six matches to win the award and in the process became the first Kenya to do so. In addition, Olunga was also the first player in the rich history of Al Duhail to achieve that feat.

Olunga entered his name into history books in the final stages of 2024 when he scored 121 goals in all competitions to become the top scorer in Al Duhail’s history.

After reaching that milestone, Olunga went on to increase his tally to 130 goals before parting ways with the club in May 2025.

The talented forward helped Al Duhail to win several trophies including the 2022-2023 Qatar Stars League Cup and the 2022 Amir Cup.

Olunga, who goes by the nickname “Engineer” won over three trophies while playing for the club that is based in Qatar’s capital.

He will be remembered for scoring four goals in the final match of the 2022-2023 season against Al Shamal that helped Al Duhail to lift the Qatar Stars League title.

As Olunga leaves Al Duhail, he does so with his head held high and unforgettable memories that he and the club’s supporters will cherish forever.
