AFC Leopards
  • AFC Leopards vs Ulinzi Stars will be played on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Dandora Stadium. Kickoff is at 1600 hrs.
  • Ingwe are winless in their last six matches—a poor run that has left them languishing in seventh place on the league table.
  • Ulinzi Stars head into the match on a high after snapping a nine-game winless streak with a victory over Kenya Police last week.

AFC Leopards will be eager to redeem themselves from a string of recent setbacks as they host Ulinzi Stars in a rescheduled Football Kenya Federation Premier League 24/25 clash on Wednesday, April 23, at the Dandora Stadium, kicking off at 4:00 PM.

The Leopards suffered a narrow 0-1 defeat to Posta Rangers last Friday, a result that further dented their hopes of contending for the league title.

The loss extended their winless streak to six matches (4 draws, 2 losses), leaving them stranded in seventh place with 37 points far from their early-season ambitions.

Despite having a gamee in hand, a victory today will not alter their position in the standings, as sixth-placed Kakamega Homeboyz (41 points) and fifth-placed KCB (also 41 points) maintain a solid lead.

With a daunting 14-point gap between themselves and league leaders Tusker FC (51 points), Ingwe’s title chase appears all but over.

Meanwhile, Ulinzi Stars head into the clash on a high, having snapped a nine-match winless run with a spirited 1-0 victory over Kenya Police last Friday at the Ulinzi Complex.

The morale-boosting performance propelled the Soldiers seven points clear of the relegation zone, placing them 12th with 31 points.

A triumph today could propel them into the top ten, although they will have played an additional match compared to most rivals.

Ambani on why AFC Leopards are struggling

Meanwhile, AFC Leopards interim coach Fred Ambani has attributed the team’s recent dip in form to a spate of injuries, but remains optimistic about a turnaround.

I can’t be content when we’re losing. We are grappling with numerous injuries to key players, which is affecting our rhythm. But I believe things will improve soon. We need to go back to the drawing board, evaluate our mistakes against Posta, and make the necessary corrections,” Ambani commented.

On the other hand, Ulinzi Stars head coach Danstun Nyaudo acknowledged his team’s improved performances, though finishing remains their Achilles’ heel.

Now that we’ve started scoring, our work rate has picked up. We’re optimistic about more positive outcomes. However, we must sharpen our finishing—it has been our major shortcoming,” said Nyaudo.

AFC Leopards will miss the services of Hassan Beja and Kelvin Madada, while Ulinzi will be without Telena Ochieng, Brian Emilio, and Javan Omondi, all away on national duty with the Kenya U20 team at the AFCON U20 tournament in Egypt.

In their previous encounter, Ulinzi Stars triumphed 2-0 over the Leopards, with Boniface Muchiri and Yakeen Mutheli finding the net. Ulinzi will be aiming to complete a season double over the struggling Ingwe.
