The Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national rugby 15s championship for boys has revealed the teams’ opponents for the upcoming national competition, which is scheduled to take place from April 7 to 12 at Shanzu Teachers College and Shimo La Tewa High School in Mombasa.

After a successful regional tournament, eight teams have secured their spots in the national 15s championship, and they have been divided into two pools: A and B.

The defending champions, All Saints Embu from the Eastern region, are placed in Group B alongside Mangu High from the Central region, Upper Hill from Nairobi, and one of the host Serani Secondary from the Coast region.

Group A includes first-time qualifiers Vihiga High School, Bwake School, Kisii School (making their third consecutive appearance), and Marafa High School.

To secure their place in the finals, All Saints triumphed over Marsabit Mixed with a dominant 56-0 victory in the regional finals.

Meanwhile, Kisii, in their third appearance at the nationals, earned their spot in dramatic fashion by overcoming the experienced St. Mary’s Yala with a crucial penalty in the regional final.

The Coastal region, hosting the tournament, will have two teams in the mix: Marafa and Serani.

Upper Hill, the 2018 champions representing Nairobi, displayed exceptional form in the regional championship, decisively defeating Nairobi School 43-3.

On the other hand, 2006 and 2010 champions Mangu School will represent the Central region after a commanding win over the former champions in the regionals.

In the Rift Valley, Bwake rose to the occasion, securing a hard-fought 10-5 victory over St. Patrick’s Iten.

The winners of each pool will face the runners-up from the other pool in the semifinals, with the champions and runners-up advancing to represent Kenya in the Rugby 15s Secondary School Games at the East Africa Term One games.

All Saints Embu were crowned champions for the first time last year in the first-term competition, coming from behind to defeat Butula Boys High School 12-10 in the final, which was held at Machakos Boys High School.

Joining them in the East Africa tournament were Kitondo School and Lenana School, who did not advance this term.
