Kenya Police FC will be aiming to recover from their recent setback and extend their lead at the top of the 24/25 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) when they host AFC Leopards on Tuesday, March 4 at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

The match, which is scheduled to kick off at 4:00 PM EAT, was officially set to take place over the weekend but was postponed to pave the way for the postponed Mashemeji Derby that did not take place once again.

This game will see the law enforcers seeking to get back to winning ways following a 1-0 defeat to Mathare United which hindered their attempts to open up a gap at the summit.

However, they will look to capitalize on the fact that their closest rivals, Tusker, who are second with 41 points, failed to overtake them in their recent match after playing to a barren draw against Bandari.

In addition to their strong goal difference which has kept them at the top of the table, Police have enjoyed a dominant home record, having remained unbeaten in all 11 home fixtures (7 wins, 4 draws) this season, making them a formidable force at home.

On the other hand, AFC Leopards come into the match with a solid record of their own, remaining unbeaten in their last six matches (3 wins, 3 draws), a run that has seen them occupy fifth place in the standings with 34 points, 7 points adrift of the league leaders.

Excellent AFC Leopards away record

While Police excel at home, Leopards have been impressive on the road, earning 18 points from five wins, three draws, and just three losses in their 11 away games. They remain unbeaten in their last five away matches.

After missing the Mashemeji Derby, head coach Fred Ambani addressed the issue with the club which resulted in a goalless draw against Sofapaka.

“If you look at how we played, we were not aggressive upfront, we were not effective the way we always play. At the moment when wide areas don’t work, it means we have a problem in the team.

We will have to go to the drawing board and check what happened, look at what we can do to improve, because if you look, we did not attack as we are used to. We created minimal chances but we always create many chances,” he explained.

This match is expected to be a highly competitive affair as both teams will be fighting for supremacy in the standings while aiming to maintain their solid home and away records.

A victory today would also propel the 12-time top-flight champions above Gor Mahia into third place and narrow the gap to the leaders to just four points.

In the first leg, AFC Leopards edged out Police with a narrow 1-0 win at home with Kennedy Owino scoring the match’s only goal.

With 11 more matches remaining for some teams this season, the title race is still open, with just 8 points separating the top eight teams.
