Wanyonyi’s opponents
Besides Wanyonyi, American athlete Bryce Hoppel has also made it to the list of the challengers with two more runners expected to be announced in the coming days.
The challengers shall battle it out with four racers that were confirmed several weeks ago.
These stars include Canadian sensation Marco Arop and the United States’ pair of Yared Nuguse and Cole Hocker as well as British representative Josh Kerr.
Arop’s wish granted
Wanyonyi’s inclusion comes as a piece of good news in Arop’s ears because he had revealed in a recent interview with Citius Mag that the former will be a dream challenger.
“The 1500m is already challenging and I think I will start with the 800m. I am always going to challenge Emmanuel Wanyonyi.
I think that is my biggest rival right now. Djamel of course and Bryce Hoppel would be an amazing addition,” explained Arop.

Wanyonyi has been one of the most consistent 800m runners in recent years. The athlete who hails from Trans Nzoia County broke into the limelight in 2021 when he won a gold medal for Kenya in the World Athletics U20 Championships that was held in Nairobi.
Since his breathtaking display in the games that were staged at the Moi International Sports Centre (MISC) Kasarani, Wanyonyi has won numerous titles particularly at an individual level.

Some of these titles include the 2023 and 2024 Wanda Diamond League trophies as well as a World Athletics Cross Country Championships mixed relay gold medal.
Wanyonyi, who ended his 2024 season on a high, has also been picked by most athletics gurus as one of the runners that have the potential to smash the current 800m world record of 1:40.91 that was set by his compatriot David Rudisha in the 2012 London Olympic Games.
