Menengai Oilers player Clinton Odhiambo has bid farewell to the club after securing a deal in Canada, where he is set to join St. George’s London in Ontario for the upcoming season, marking the end of his 10-year tenure with the team.

Since joining the Oilers in 2015, Odhiambo has made 121 appearances. He was also selected for the national 15s team, the Simbas, five times.

In addition, he has achieved numerous accolades, including six appearances in the Currie Cup First Division, one Super Series Main Trophy, a Kenya Cup Final appearance in 2022, two Floodlit Varsity Cups, one Floodlit Main Cup in 2024, the 2021 Robin Cahill 7s, Safari 7s Championship, and the 2022 Sevens Series Championship.
Odhiambo, reflecting on his move, shared that it presents a fresh opportunity to experience new environments and to establish his name on the international stage.
“I am currently in Victoria for a few days, then later move to London, Ontario, to join my new club, St. George’s London, which will be my new home for the new season.
Itβs definitely a life-changing opportunity to experience rugby across the globe and interact with different cultures. Hopefully, I gather enough exposure and become a better lad on the international map,β Odhiambo told Citizen Digital.

He further admitted that his departure from the Oilers was a difficult decision, as his original plan was to retire with the club.
“On leaving Oilers after 10 years, I can say thatβs probably the hardest decision I have come to make in recent years. I actually thought that would be the last club that Iβd feature for, but here we are, embracing an opportunity that life has provided,β he added.
Nevertheless, he encouraged his former teammates to continue striving for excellence.
“Better never stops. They should continue ticking the right boxes, and without a doubt, they will achieve more greatness,” he reiterated.

Clinton Odhiambo, who has played as both a lock and back row forward, leaves the club as one of its standout players.
The club is currently in third place with 41 points in the 2024/25 Kenya Cup standings as they continue to chase a spot in the semifinals.
