Anthony Akhulia Bidco United head coach

Bidco United head coach Anthony Akhulia has highlighted the shortage of attacking players as the key reason for their disappointing performance this season.

Bidco have only managed to secure three wins out of the 18 matches they have played so far this season, leaving them at the bottom of the table in an 18-team league.

The 16 points they have secured this season, come from a 2-0 victory over Bandari FC, a 1-0 win against Kariobangi Sharks, and another 1-0 triumph against reigning champions Gor Mahia, alongside seven points from seven drawn matches.

After their 1-1 draw with Kariobangi Sharks on Sunday afternoon at the Dandora, Akhulia emphasized that the team’s frontline remains a significant issue.

Although they have been creating chances, their efforts have often gone off target, costing them valuable opportunities.

“I believe we still have a major problem.” Akhulia told Azam TV. “When you look at this match, we created clear chances. In the first half, we had an opportunity that went wide, and the player who should have scored missed it.”

“In the second half, the same thing happened—two clear chances, both off target. That is the primary reason we are at the bottom. We have players who cannot score,” he bemoaned.

He added that the only way to improve their situation, especially for a club that has been in the top tier since their promotion in 2020 is to strengthen their squad by signing players who can convert chances into goals.

“In this transfer window, we will focus on bringing in fresh legs who can contribute in attack and also bolster our squad,” he said.

Bidco have managed to score 10 goals, but their defense has been breached 19 times by opponents.

On the issue of conceding goals, Akhulia mentioned that they have worked on these weaknesses in training, particularly in defending set pieces but it seems that his instructions often go unheeded during matches.

“We have addressed these issues in training, especially defending set pieces. But I’m always shocked when it happens again in actual play. I don’t know if the players forget or what,” a visibly frustrated Akhulia expressed.

Bidco will look to end their six-match winless streak when they host in-form Ulinzi Stars at Dandora Stadium on Friday, January 31.
