Kariobangi Sharks head coach William Muluya has opened up about how the absence of a reliable forward has hindered his team’s ability to capitalize on the numerous opportunities they have created in their matches this season.
Sharks were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against Bidco United on Sunday, as their struggles persist with only one victory in their last 13 league matches.
Andreas Odhimbo broke the deadlock for the Sharks, but Antony Akhulia’s side equalized through Jacob Onyango’s goal in the second half.
The team showed promise at the start of the season, but their performance began to falter after a series of injuries plagued the club.

Two key players—top scorer Ally Salum, who was in excellent form with four goals before being sidelined for six weeks due to collateral ligament (MCL) strain injury, and Keith Imbali, who had scored three goals before his own injury—were both unavailable.
Additionally, the Sharks have been without Biron Otieno, who has also been absent for three months, leaving a significant void in their midfield.
Muluya acknowledged that the absence of key players, particularly goal scorers, has been a major setback for his squad and he has been grappling with the challenge.
However, he pointed out that this issue is not exclusive to his team but is a common struggle among clubs at the bottom of the table.

“When you look closely at the teams above us in the standings, they’ve scored almost 30 goals, and a significant portion of those goals come from a single player.
Sometimes, you need that player to help the team, and when that doesn’t happen, it’s a major setback for the coach. Yes, the team might win a match, but at the end of the day, it remains a problem,” Muluya told Azam TV.
“When you examine all the teams at the bottom of the table, they lack a player they can rely on to score consistently. Our task now is to bring in players who can find the back of the net, or if necessary, focus on scouting or developing talent from the grassroots level.”
Kariobangi Sharks are currently in 13th place on the table with 20 points after 18 matches. They have won four matches, drawn eight, and lost six.
