Kenya’s national team, Harambee Stars, has been placed in a challenging Group A for the upcoming Africa Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) which was rescheduled to August 2025.
In the draw conducted on Wednesday January 15 at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, Kenya, Kenya, who were automatically seeded in Pool A as the host nation was drawn alongside four formidable teams in 2018 and 2020 champions Morocco, 2009 and 2016 winners Democratic Republic of Congo, 2011 finalists Angola and Zambia.
Seventeen nations were drawn for the continental tournament with the overall competition set to feature 19 teams. The remaining two spots will be confirmed later.

Another highly competitive group is Group D where the defending champions Senegal will face Nigeria, Congo and Sudan.
Tanzania, the second co-host alongside Kenya, has been placed in Group B alongside Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso and the Central African Republic.
Uganda, the third East African nation to host the tournament will compete in Group C against Niger, Guinea and two other teams that will be confirmed later.
Following the draw, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Vice President McDonald Mariga remarked that Kenya has been drawn into a “group of death” but emphasized the nation’s readiness for the challenge.
“I believe our Group A is a group of death but I can confidently say that Kenya is fully prepared for the tournament,” said Mariga who was among the distinguished guests at the draw.

CHAN 2024 was initially scheduled to take place from February 1 to 28 but was postponed on January 14 by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to August, allowing the host nations—Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania—to complete their preparations.
