Bruno Saltor is a coach and a former player. Bruno was a product of RCD Espanyol’s youth system, but he only made 1 appearance in a match against Rayo Vallecano where he only played for 8 minutes. He went on to appear in 128 La Liga games.

Early life

Bruno Saltor Grau was born on 1 October 1980 in El Masnou, Barcelona, Catalonia. Bruno spent 20 years as a professional footballer, 13 of which he played for clubs in his native, Spain. His professional debut was with Espanyol. He has also played for Almeria, Valencia, and Brighton. He is a former defender (right-back).

Playing Career in Spain

His professional debut was at Espanyol’s youth system but he only made one appearance playing for only eight minutes. He was loaned to Gimnastic de Tarragona for a further two spells. Bruno later joined UD Lleida in 2006 during their very first promotion to La Liga.

In the 2007-08 season, he only missed four league games and his team finished in 8th place. His team performed the same in the following season. Bruno signed a 3-year deal with Valencia Cf in June 2009.

He had planned to transfer to Real Betis but his moves crumpled because the club was relegated. Bruno made a total of 33 appearances in 2 seasons altogether.

Brighton & Hove Albion

Bruno (a free agent) signed a 2-year contract for EFL Championship club Brighton & Hove Albion. His first goal for the team was on 24 November in a draw against Bolton Wanderers. Bruno was the automatic first choice for his position.
Bruno helped his club gain promotion to the Premier League after 34 years in the 2016-17 campaign. His first English Top Flight match was against Manchester City. Bruno signed a new one-year deal on 3 April 2018.

Bruno injured his hamstring during the opening match of 2018-19 and lost his role to Martin Montoya. He returned in October and the team won three consecutive clean sheets. He was in the starting eleven in five of the last six matches as Brighton nearly went into relegation.

Retirement from playing football

Bruno announced his retirement at the end of the season on 10 May 2019. He retired having made 235 league appearances for the Seagulls. He took on the role of senior player development coach there.

Coaching Career

Bruno was appointed as a senior player development coach at Brighton & Hove Albion. Bruno followed Graham Potter to Chelsea on 8 September 2022. Even if he had never managed a club before, Chelsea made Bruno the head coach following Potter’s as head coach. He managed the club for one match against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge which ended as a draw. He left the club on 25 September 2023.

Coaching Caretaker Job

Bruno was appointed as Chelsea’s caretaker manager on 3 April 2023.  He was only in charge for two days and was dismissed on 5 April 2023. During this time, the club played only one game, ending in a draw.

Bruno Saltor is married to Raquel Saltor. They both have two children, a daughter ( Adriana Saltor) and a son (Pol Saltor). Bruno and his family all live in Brighton and Hove, United Kingdom.
