Gor Mahia

Gor Mahia’s woes continued on Wednesday evening as they succumbed to a second loss in three matches following a 2-0 defeat against Bandari in a rescheduled midweek fixture staged at the Ukunda Showground.

Seeking to overcome a difficult patch that saw the record Kenyan champions go for three matches without a win (2D 1 L), the Leonardo Neiva-coached side came up short as they tasted their second defeat of the 24/25 season which left them in eleventh place on 8 points, nine behind leaders KCB who have played two extra games.

Additionally, K’Ogalo finished the game with ten men after Geoffrey ‘Simiti’ Ochieng was shown a red card, meaning the combative left back will miss the Mashemeji Derby against perennial rivals AFC Leopards when the two sides clash on 24 November after the international break.

Before the match, K’Ogalo received a boost in their hopes of getting back to winning ways as the Harambee Stars trio of Austin Odhiambo, Ronney Onyango and Sylvester Owino all made their way back to the starting squad after their African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 assignment against South Sudan.

By the half time break though, there was nothing to separate the two sides.

Things started unravelling in the 65th minute when Simiti was shown a straight red card for pulling Izzadin Ramadan who was through on goal.

Just four minutes later, former Gor player Geoffrey Ojunga scored a stunning free kick to give his side the advantage.

With a man advantage, it only took nine minutes for Bandari to double their advantage which came through Beja Nyamawi’s strike that sealed the 2-0 win.
