Gor Mahia

Football Kenya Federation Premier League defending champions Gor Mahia will be hoping to move into the top four positions when they lock horns against Nairobi City Stars in Monday afternoon league action.

The Leonardo Neiva-coached side head into the match full of confidence as they are not only one of the remaining four unbeaten sides in the league but also the only side yet to concede a goal after three games.

The record Kenyan champions started the season with a 4-0 victory over Mathare United and then triumphed beat Posta Rangers 3-0 before being held to a goalless draw by KCB in their last outing.

On the other hand, Nicholas Muyoti’s City stars, have had a challenging start to the 24/25 campaign.

They drew 1-1 against Bidco United, lost 1-0 to Mara Sugar and were defeated 2-1 by AFC Leopards. They then managed another 1-1 draw with Sofapaka before losing 2-0 to KK Homeboyz in midweek action.

Gor Mahia will be forced to play the match without several of their key players who got a call-up to the national team for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 qualifier against South Sudan.

They will be without last season’s Most Valuable Player Austin Odhiambo who has already scored two goals so far this season.

Additionally, they will miss Ronney Onyango who made a comeback in the last match against KCB after being sidelined due to disciplinary issues.

If Gor Mahia wins today, they will reduce the gap with the league leaders KCB to seven points.

Conversely, if City Stars win, they will gain five points, keeping them level with several teams at the bottom of the league.
