Barry Otieno has officially resigned from his position as the Chief Executive Officer of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).
In an official letter dated 8 October 2024, Otieno explained that his resignation is to allow him to pursue other opportunities.
“I am writing to formally announce my resignation as the General Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), effective today, October 8, 2024,” he stated.
“After five years in this esteemed position, I have decided to step down and explore other avenues.”

Barry has been with the FKF Board since 2016, starting as the communication manager before being promoted to head of communication and marketing from 2017 to 2019.
He became CEO in 2019 after replacing Robert Muthomi and has worked closely with FKF president Nick Mwendwa since he took office.
“To the FKF President: Thank you for your unwavering support and guidance. Your vision for Kenyan football has been inspirational, and it has been a privilege to work alongside you in achieving those goals,” Barry wrote.
His resignation comes amid speculation that he may run for the FKF presidency in the upcoming December elections.

He has reportedly not attended recent meetings led by Mwendwa where officials from 48 counties gathered.
Mwendwa, who is also considering a bid for a third term, is expected to meet with club officials to secure their support.
The FKF elections have garnered significant attention since the electoral board announced the official dates for the presidential elections.
Should Barry choose to run, he would be competing against several candidates, including Kakamega Homeboyz chairman Cleophas ‘Toto’ Shimanyula, who recently declared his candidacy, along with Hussein Mohammed, former FKF president Sam Nyamweya, Tom Alila, Sam Ochilla, and Sammy Owino.
The national elections are set for 7th December.
