FKF Elections

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) electoral board has released a roadmap for the upcoming elections and has set the national elections to be held on 7 December 2024 with several events taking place beforehand.

Additionally, the board has released an FKF electoral code that will govern the elections among the candidates and delegates.

Apart from the official election dates being pronounced, some of the other key events that will take place are as follows:

The preliminary publication of eligible clubs and delegates who will assist in conducting the elections will occur on September 30.

The hearing of disputes will be conducted by two bodies: the electoral board and the appeals committee, from October 3rd to 5th and again from October 7 to 9 with the final list of delegates and clubs to be published by October 10.

There will also be hearings for preliminary candidate disputes conducted by both the electoral board and the appeals committee from October 24-26 for the electoral board, and from October 30th to November 1st for the appeals committee.

This is before the final list of candidates is published on November 2.

Training for returning and election officers will take place from 4-5 November, ahead of the county elections on November 9. If there is a tie, a repeat election will be held on November 10.

The publication of the delegates who will take part in the national elections will occur on November 23, leading up to the official Election D-Day on December 7.

As the stage is set for the upcoming elections, the FKF electoral board has also released a code to assess the eligibility of candidates.

The following individuals have shown interest in running: Extreme Sports CEO Hussein Mohammed, former footballer Sammy ‘Kempes’ Owino, Gor Mahia Secretary General Sam Ocholla and former FKF boss Sam Nyamweya among others who are expected to be on the list.

They must meet the following criteria:

1. The candidate must be a Kenyan citizen and an adult.

2. The candidate must have at least five endorsements from any of the FKF members.

3. The candidate must have played an active role in Kenyan football, either as a player or an FKF official, within the past two years of their five years in office.

4. A candidate must satisfy the requirements for leadership and integrity as outlined in Chapter Six of the 2010 Kenyan Constitution.

In addition, the candidates who meet the above criteria, as well as those vying for positions at the county and sub-county levels, are expected to pay a non-refundable nomination fee.

The President and the Vice President will each pay KSh 300,000 while NEC members will pay KSh 75,000.

For the county chairperson and their running mate, each will pay KSh 10,000. Any elective position at the county level will require a payment of KSh 5,000, and for positions at the sub-county level, the fee will also be KSh 5,000.

For the national level elections, the voter register will comprise one delegate from each of the 48 FKF counties, 18 Premier League clubs, 10 NSL teams, 10 National Division One sides, the top three Women Premier League clubs, the Women’s National Super League, and the Players’ Welfare Association.

Decisions made by the FKF Appeals Committee shall be final and binding, and any aggrieved candidate seeking to appeal must pay a fee of KShs. 100,000 within the deadline specified in the electoral timeline. However, if the appeal is upheld, the candidate will receive a refund of the appeal fee.
