FKF Elections

After the five members responsible for overseeing this year’s Football Kenya Federation (FKF) elections were announced, aspirant Hussein Mohamed has raised several concerns regarding the board.

In his statement, the presidential candidate reiterated his support for the board but expressed uncertainty about the ability of the five-member group revealed on Monday to produce credible and transparent results. He also urged the board to make the voter register public.

“We are acutely aware of past and ongoing attempts to manipulate the voter register by certain individuals within the FKF Secretariat. This practice cannot be allowed to continue.

The voter register must be made public, transparent, and safeguarded from tampering to ensure that every eligible voter has a fair say in this election,” the statement read.

He also emphasized that his group would hold the board accountable if they failed to deliver credible results.

“While we welcome the release of the roadmap, we will not hesitate to hold the FKF Electoral Board accountable if they fail to adhere to the principles of transparency, fairness, and integrity.

The future of Kenyan football depends on a credible election, and we are fully committed to ensuring that happens.”

Hussein urged the five members—Hesbon Owilla (Chairman), Marceline Sande (Secretary), Dan Mule, Alfred Ng’anga, and James Waindi—to consult with the IEBC on how to conduct credible elections.

“To guarantee impartiality and professionalism, we strongly urge the Electoral Board to engage the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to oversee the elections. The IEBC has the technical expertise and experience necessary to ensure a credible and transparent process,” he added.

He further asserted that all grievances raised by voters at lower levels should be addressed there, rather than waiting for the main board members in Nairobi to resolve them. Additionally, he demanded that grassroots elections be held at county headquarters to facilitate the process for voters and delegates.

“All voter register disputes and other electoral grievances must be resolved at the grassroots level, where they originate, rather than in Nairobi. This approach will empower local football stakeholders and ensure their concerns are addressed fairly and promptly.

To enhance accessibility and fairness, we demand that polling stations for branch grassroots elections be located at county headquarters. This will allow football delegates and voters to participate in the process without facing unnecessary logistical challenges and intimidation,” he stated.

He also expressed concerns about the Kandanda House location, asserting that the board should operate from a neutral site where some FKF members are not present.

“The FKF Electoral Board must demonstrate its independence by operating from a neutral location, entirely detached from Kandanda House. This is crucial to ensure the electoral process remains free from undue influence by current FKF officials, many of whom are also contenders.”

The board is expected to provide a roadmap within three days, with elections scheduled to be over by mid-December. The Chair indicated that all official communications would come from him after discussions with the five-member board.
