SportPesa 7s
  • The SportPesa 7s Circuit will see a new winner crowned in 2024.
  • Defending champions KCB were mathematically knocked out of the equation in Nakuru.

Reigning SportPesa National 7s Circuit champions KCB will not get the chance to defend their title in 2024 after being condemned to a group stage exit at the Prinsloo 7s which marks the final outing of the campaign.

The Bankers, who needed nothing short of winning the main cup title in Nakuru aside from hoping for miracles elsewhere, failed to get the job done on their part after failing to make it to the main cup quarterfinals following their third place finish in Pool B.

The Dennis Mwanja-coached side had gotten off to the perfect start with a 15-0 victory over Mwamba but a stunning 20-21 loss to Nakuru left them needing all three points in their final pool match against Nondies.

The Bankers, who have always risen to the occasion when needed, this time failed in their quest as they were held to a 7-7 draw that saw them finish in third place in the pool where Nakuru finished top and Nondies in second place.

The result meant the 2024 SportPesa 7s Circuit will see a new winner crowned and will be between current leaders Kenya Harlequin and Kabras Sugar.

Quins, who won all their three games against Menengai Oilers, Mombasa and Zetech Oaks, are in the driving seat and only need to make the semifinal to secure the overall title for the first time since 2012.

Kabras also won all their matches against Stallions, Kabarak and Daystar Falcons wo progress to the last 8 after topping Pool D.

The other teams who booked their place in the main cup quarterfinals include Nakuru, Nondies, Blak Blad, Strathmore Leos and Daystar Falcons.
