2024 Diamond League final

Star athletes from different corners of the world are set to converge in Belgium between September 13 and September 14 for the eagerly anticipated 2024 Diamond League final.

Several runners will represent Kenya, including double Olympic Games champion Beatrice Chebet, Mary Moraa, Faith Kipyegon, Emmanuel Wanyonyi and Cornelius Kemboi.

3000m steeplechase sensation Faith Cherotich, Nicholas Kipkorir, Jacob Krop, Amos Serem and Timothy Cheruiyot are some of the others who will also be in contention.

These runners will be seeking to end their 2024 Diamond League season on a high and lay their hands on the top prize.

According to the organizers, the first athletes to cross the finishing line will each receive $30,000 (approximately Ksh 3,864,000). 

“All 32 Diamond League Champions (one man and one woman in each of the 16 disciplines) are crowned over two days of athletics action at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme in Brussels.

Each champion is awarded a prestigious “Diamond Trophy”, US $30,000 prize money and a wild card for the World Athletics Championships (certain conditions apply),” read part of the statement from the Wanda Diamond League website. 

Meanwhile, athletes who finish second and third will bag $12,000 (approximately Ksh 1, 548,000) and $7,000 (approximately Ksh 903,000) respectively.

Finally, those who secure positions fourth to eighth will also not walk home empty-handed since a substantial amount of money has been set aside for them.

Tujiamini is an initiative that seeks to provide a platform, including up to 30M shillings in funding, for individual, team sports and various talent, in a year-long campaign that will go around the country in a move aimed at evoking the sense of pride in Kenya’s sports and talent ecosystem.
