2024 Driftwood 7s main cup quarterfinals
  • The 2024 Driftwood 7s main cup quarterfinals will be played early Sunday morning.
  • The games will take place at the Mombasa Sports Club.

Reigning SportPesa 7s National Circuit champions KCB RFC could face perennial rivals Kabras Sugar in the 2024 Driftwood 7s main cup semifinals should both sides navigate their quarterfinal pairings slated for Sunday morning.

KCB, who came into the Driftwood 7s after their first win this season at Kabeberi, progressed to the last 8 top of Pool A following wins over Blakblad, Mombasa and Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.

However, the same could not be said of Kabras Sugar who had to settle for a second-place finish after Quins destroyed their 100% record.

The Kakamega-based side had recorded a narrow 7-5 win over Mwamba in their first fixture before comfortably seeing off Nakuru 24-0 but were brought back to earth as Quins handed them a slim 19-21 loss. The defeat saw Quins topping Pool C after two other wins against Nakuru and Mwamba.

In Pool B, Menengai Oilers showed the highest form of inconsistency as they went from finishing second in Kabeberi to failing to make it out of the group stage.

The Gibson Weru-coached side only recorded one win against TUM Marines which came either side of a 7-12 loss to Nondies and a 17-19 defeat to Daystar who booked their ticket alongside Nondies.

The third quarterfinal will be a varsity affair with Daystar Falcons aiming to get the better of Blakblad before current circuit leaders Kenya Harlequin play against Zetech Oaks.
