Gor Mahia

Record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia will once again travel to Tanzania where the team is scheduled to play two friendly matches against teams from the Tanzanian topflight as they seek to sharpen their claws ahead of the 24/25 CAF Champions League campaign.

SportPesa Blog can confirm that K’Ogalo will depart the country early Thursday morning and are set to play Fountain Gate on Friday before another potential tie against Namungo mooted for Sunday.

The 21-time Kenyan champions will then return to the country in readiness for the first leg of the CAF Champions League First Preliminary Round tie against South Sudan’s Al Merreikh Bentiu in Juba.

“The team will be leaving on Thursday and will play its first match against Fountain Gate on Friday. We are also planning to get another match against Namungo on Sunday before we return home,” Gor Mahia Team manager Victor Nyaoro confirmed.

The two games will give K’Ogalo a good platform to assess how far they have come in their preseason journey having recorded disappointing results early on when they took part in the 2024 CECAFA Kagame Cup played in Dar es Salaam in July.

In that regional tournament, K’Ogalo failed to progress past the group stage after losing against Red Arrows (Zambia) and Al Hilal (Sudan) and drawing against ASAS Djibouti Telekom (Djibouti), scoring only once while conceding four times in the three games.

Gor opted to travel to Tanzania after their FKF Community Shield match against Kenya Police, that was to take place on Sunday, was cancelled due to what the Football Kenya Federation said was occasioned by the lack of a playing venue.

“This difficult decision has been necessitated by unforeseen challenges in securing a suitable venue to host the match.

Despite our best efforts and extensive search, we have been unable to find a facility that meets the required standards for this prestigious fixture within the available timeframe,” the FKF statement explained.
