Barely a day after their previous donation in Kakamega County, the SportPesa Foundation was at it again, this time paying a visit to Seregeya Dispensary where they put a smile on the entire community.
SportPesa’s Foundation boosted Seregeya Dispensary’s capacity to provide maternal care through the donation of medical equipment that will enable women in the area access safer delivery and better care for the new born babies.
Seregeya Dispensary becomes the third health facility in Kakamega County to benefit from SportPesa Foundation’s maternal care donation. Malava Sub-County Hospital and Shibwe Hospital also received a similar donation from the Foundation.
“Healthcare is a shared function between the county government, central government and partners including the community. We are all stakeholders.
“As we thank SportPesa Foundation for this kind donation, I would like to stress to the community of Seregeya to use them fully by ensuring every mother here gives birth in hospital and newborns are cared for here,,” said Lukuyani Sub County Medical Officer of Health Dr. Felix Ocholla.
Built in 1999, the Seregeya dispensary currently serves a population of over 10,000 people annually.
The equipment donated to the dispensary include BP machines, weight & height scales, single crank ABC patients’ beds and a delivery bed. The hospital also received an oxygen concentrator, a suction machine, steriliser, delivery packs and two baby cots.
“A year ago, we launched our maternal health care support across the country in a bid to help women have access to clean, safe, well-equipped facilities. In the one year we have seen the impact of this programme and remain committed to mothers and future mothers of this country, especially in rural area.
“As we have visited various counties, we have seen the need for incubators and other equipment to assist preserving the lives of the newborn, especially preterm babies,” said SportPesa Foundation Lead Esther Kang’ethe.
Since starting the maternal healthcare program in March 2021, the SportPesa Foundation has supported health facilities in Nairobi, Kiambu, Kilifi, Tharaka Nithi and Meru counties.
Health facilities in Narok, Bomet and Homa-Bay counties have also benefitted.
The Foundation remains committed in supporting communities in areas of sports and education, maternal care and ending period poverty by promoting menstrual hygiene projects.
