Here we have a look at the KPL Golden Boot contenders and how many goals they have scored for their individual teams.

The race for the Kenya Premier League continues to heat up and the league leaders Tusker FC have to be wary of their closest challengers KCB FC.

The brewers are currently sitting atop the standings with 55 points, one ahead of KCB after both teams have played 26 matches.

Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno’s bankers have significantly reduced the point difference after an impressive eight-match unbeaten run.

AFC Leopards, who are in search of a first KPL title in 23 years, are in third place with 44 points – level with Kariobangi Sharks who boast the league’s top scorer.

As we head into the penultimate leg of the season, we have a look at the top scorers in the Kenyan top flight.

ERIC KAPAITO (22) – Kariobangi Sharks

The lethal forward has maintained his goal-scoring exploits throughout the season with the best goals per game ratio as well.

Aside from last week’s 3-0 loss to KCB, Kapaito had scored in six successive games proving that he is the most prolific scorer in the land.

ELVIS RUPIA (15) – AFC Leopards

The former Nzoia Sugar striker is responsible for 60% of the goals Leopards have scored this season.

He has gone on a slump, scoring just once in the last seven matches but his stats from the first half of the season still leaves him in second place on the goal-scoring charts.

Rupia rediscovered his goal-scoring capabilities with a goal in the recent 2-2 draw against his former employers.

LAWRENCE JUMA (12) – Sofapaka

Scoring 11 goals from a midfield position is no easy achievement but Juma has made it look easy as the season has progressed.

Aside from scoring the only goal in an important win against KCB, Juma also scored a brace as his side battled to a 2-2 draw against Leopards.

Since then he has only bagged one goal but there is no doubt that he will add to his impressive tally as the season progresses.

WILLIAM WADRI (12) – Bandari

After leading the Bandari scoring charts last season, the explosive winger looks to be on course to take control of the dockers once again.

Wadri has scored in three straight games, including the winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Posta Rangers last time out.

DERRICK OTANGA (10) – KCB

The sturdy forward has been explosive in recent weeks and his exploits see him round-up the top five goal scorers in the country.

Otanga scored a mighty brace in a 2-2 draw against league leaders Tusker FC, before adding another all important goal in a 2-1 win against Ulinzi Stars.
