Wednesday comes with it a monumental fixture as Serie A champions Juventus face last season’s Coppa Italia winners Napoli in the 33rd edition of the Supercoppa Italiana.

Italy’s most decorated club, Juventus, have claimed the Supercoppa trophy eight times since it was first awarded in 1988 (in 1995, 1997, 2002, 2003, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2018), Napoli have done so just twice – beating the Bianconeri on both occasions (1990 and 2014).

With a first piece of silverware of the season up for grabs, Juventus will need to bring their customary A game especially after a devastating 2-0 defeat to Inter Milan over the weekend.

The defeat left them in fifth place, a massive 10 points behind the league leaders AC Milan, while Napoli are in third just one point above their opponents.

The last time the clubs met was in the Coppa Italia final at the climax of a tumultuous 2019-20 campaign, when Napoli prevailed on penalties after a tense goalless draw.

What time does Juventus vs Napoli start?

The game kicks off at 11pm Kenyan time at the Mapei Stadium.

Juventus vs Napoli team news

It will be interesting to see how Andrea Pirlo shuffles his side with plenty of places up for grabs in the midfield with the likes of Adrien Rabiot, Aaron Ramsey, Weston McKennie and Frederico Chiesa all battling for a spot in the starting XI.

Paulo Dybala remains sidelined through injury and Alvaro Morata is likely to start partnering Cristiano Ronaldo up front.

Napoli are without Victor Osimhen through COVID-19 but Andrea Petagna is available to lead the attacking line up front.

Piotr Zielinski, Lorenzo Insigne and Hirving Lozano are fit and have been in fine form, all expected to start against the Bianconeri.

Juventus vs Napoli head to head

Despite a poor run in the 2020/21 season, Juventus still hold an advantage over Napoli in recent tests, winning 19 out of the 39 matches played between the two sides.

Napoli have managed 11 wins, with the remaining 9 matches ending in a draw.

Juventus vs Napoli current form

Napoli have won 3 from their last 5 matches and drawn one more.

The only loss in their last 5 games was a shock 2-1 home defeat to newcomers Spezia.

Juventus on the other hand have won three times and lost twice in their last five matches.

Juventus vs Napoli prediction

This being a final, both teams will undoubtedly bring the heat for a chance to pick up the first piece of silverware for the season.

There will definitely be goals from either side but I tip Juventus to come out on top.
