In their continued efforts to develop football at all levels in the country, Africa’s leading gaming platform SportPesa teamed up with the Irungu Nyakera foundation to donate kits in Murang’a County.

Through their noble Kits for Africa initiative, they were able to hand out football kits and footballs to 52 teams from 35 wards in the area, who could not hide their joy due to the generous donation.

Irungu Nyakera, the chairman of the foundation, which works hand in hand with the respective teams called upon the government to duplicate SportPesa’s efforts in a bid to help develop the heaps of talent that the country visibly boasts.

“I would like to ask the national and county governments to invest more in the youth.

“They need to put more into sports and facilities to help the younger generation further their skills and help keep them away from drugs and alcohol,” Nyakera stated.

Financially incapable

The foundation has been helping the teams from Murang’a that feature in the Football Kenya Federation leagues for the past two years and is invested in bettering the conditions and opportunities that all players have access to.

“SportPesa has enabled us to fully kit all 52 teams and provided balls as well, which is admirable and in the future I hope many others will follow suit.

“Due to the ongoing pandemic, there are also sanitizers that have been donated in the hope that everyone continues being safe as things slowly start to get back to normal,” he added.

The Kits for Africa program has helped hundreds of teams since its inception in 2016 and it aims to provide kits to teams across the region, most of which are financially incapable of buying the necessities they need for training and during their games.

“Thank you very much for your support because our small upcoming teams struggle with getting uniforms/kits and also financially.

“We want to thank you all and we know that if you stay with us you will help us with our needs in the future,” said Boniface Mwangi, Chairman of Githunguri FC.
