Record Kenya Premier League winners Gor Mahia have expressed their intent to get revenge on Kenya Police in Saturday’s battle.
Gor are currently at the top of the table with 34 points with a game in hand after playing out to a 1-1 draw against Ulinzi Stars last Saturday.
Police on the other hand are in fourth place with 28 points after their 5-game winning streak was halted by a 1-1 draw against Talanta.
The highly-anticipated game will kick off this Saturday at 3pm at the Kasarani Stadium.
The Jonathan McKinstry-coached side have been on the up and up since re-entering their blissful partnership with supreme gaming company SportPesa in September last year.
“We know how tough our opponents are but this does not interfere with our preparations and we are ready for the challenge that they pose.
“The team is in high spirits and training has been good this week, we’re working on being more clinical and we are confident we can bag all 3 points on Saturday,” McKinstry stated.
Still with a game in hand, Gor are eager to get their revenge on a Police side that managed to bag 4 points against them last season.
The first game ended in a 1-1 draw, before Police bounced back to beat Gor 2-0, something that the high-flying side has vowed to correct this time round.
Gor Mahia are on an impressive 10-game unbeaten run and have only conceded three goals in that duration, making them the team to beat ahead of the KPL second leg.
“It was very painful that they got 4 points against us last season but this is a motivating factor for us. Because of this, we have to win on Saturday.
“It’s not an easy game but we are in good form, we are not conceding goals and there is no doubt that we have what it takes to get our revenge on them,” Gor goalkeeper Gad Matthews told SportPesa’s Blog.
Aside from being league leaders, Gor also boast the best defensive record in the land, only conceding 6 times in 15 games this far into the season.
They go up against a Police side who have scored 23 times, the most in the Kenyan top flight, setting this up to be an enticing affair.
“I urge all our fans to turn up in large numbers on Saturday to show us support just like they always do. We promise to give it our best and come out on top at the end of the day,” Gad concluded.
