Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hoping to win a first trophy with Man United as they take on Villarreal in the Europa League final in Gdansk.

The first final in the 2020/21 European club competitions kicks off on Wednesday night as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seeks to bag his first trophy with Manchester United.

The red devils go up against a Villarreal side under the tutelage of a man who has won the Europa League three times – Unai Emery.

This will be Emery’s fifth Europa League final and ensured qualification after sending his former team Arsenal, packing in the semis with a 2-1 aggregate victory.

United have suffered a painful run of four successive semi-final defeats in the competition but come into this encounter on a high after finishing second in the Premier League.

With an astonishing record of 12 wins and two draws in their 14 Europa League matches so far, Villarreal may be the underdogs going into Wednesday’s final, but we cannot put a win past them.

Ahead of the showpiece event, we have a look at each team’s form and preparation for the final.

What time does Villarreal vs Man United start?

The game kicks off at 10pm Kenyan time at The Stadion Miejski w GdaƄsku.

Villarreal vs Man United team news

Villarreal could welcome back Tottenham loanee Juan Foyth and winger Samuel Chukwueze for their first major European final appearance.

Emery has refused to rule out Samuel Chukwueze’s chances of making this week’s final, but the attacker is still a major doubt for the showpiece event.

Etienne Capoue is available after being suspended for the semi-final second leg against Arsenal but Vicente Iborra remains on the sidelines.

As for United, captain Harry Maguire remains a major doubt due to an ankle ligament injury that has seen him miss the last four matches, though he was included in the 26-man travelling squad.

Aaron Wan Bissaka and Luke Shaw will return to their regular roles in defense after being rested against Wolves.

Having rotated his squad for the last league game, Solskjaer will bring back the likes of Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood to lead the attack.

Villarreal vs Man United head to head

There has never been a winner nor a goal in all the four matches played between these two sides. All have ended in barren draws.

Villarreal vs Man United current form

There is nothing separating these two sides in terms of form, as both sides have won twice, lost twice and drawn another in their recent run of five matches.

Villarreal vs Man United prediction

Spanish sides have been known to struggle against English opposition and despite neither side ever scoring against the other, I believe United have enough quality in their side to come out on top.
