Nairobi United and Kakamega Homeboyz played out to an entertaining 2-2 draw at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani in a rescheduled SportPesa League encounter marked by end-to-end action, defensive lapses and moments of individual brilliance.

The match burst into life early, with Nairobi United creating the first clear-cut opportunity in the 7th minute.

Kevin Wangaya combined neatly with Enock Machaka, but the latter’s effort drifted wide, denying the hosts an early breakthrough.

Just two minutes later, Nairobi threatened again down the left flank as Lesley Otieno picked out Kevin Otiende, whose teasing delivery was well parried away by goalkeeper Ibrahim Wanzala.

Against the run of play, Homeboyz, struck first in the 13th minute after a costly defensive lapse at the back.

Oliver Majaka capitalized on the mistake, calmly slotting home to give the visitors the lead.

The forward continued to torment Nairobi United’s defense moments later, beating John Otieno before delivering a dangerous cross but Rodgers Ouma saw his goal-bound effort cleared off the line.

Nairobi United responded with urgency, and in the 21st minute, Machaka came close to leveling matters with a thunderous 25-yard strike that rattled the upright.

The hosts kept pushing forward with Wangaya gliding past defenders in the 25th minute and delivering a cut-back that was expertly cleared by Potiphar Odhiambo.

Their persistence paid off in the 28th minute when Michael Karamor reacted quickest to a loose ball inside the area, pouncing on a rebound to restore parity for Nairobi United.

The hosts nearly took the lead in the 35th minute, but Karamor’s header lacked direction and sailed off target.

Homeboyz regained their advantage just before the break. After another dangerous move in the 38th minute where Majaka was denied by a timely intervention from Bernard Jairo, the forward returned in the 39th minute to score his second of the afternoon, calmly finishing to register his ninth goal of the season and hand the visitors a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.

The second half saw Nairobi United make an early defensive change with David Wafula replacing Yusuf Mainge.

The hosts pushed forward in search of an equalizer but it was Homeboyz who came close to extending their lead with Moses Mudavadi missing a golden chance in the 48th minute after failing to connect with a well-delivered free kick from Estone.

Coach George Oduor made another tactical adjustment in the 61st minute, introducing Mustafa Kizza for Dancan Omala and the substitution proved decisive.

Nine minutes later, Karamor was brought down at the edge of the box, earning Nairobi United a dangerous free kick. Substitute Kizza stepped up and curled a beautiful effort past the goalkeeper to restore parity and bring the Kasarani crowd to life.

The final minutes saw both teams push for a winner, but solid defending and disciplined midfield play ensured the match ended in a stalemate, with both sides forced to share the spoils after an intense contest.
