Harambee Stars forward Jonah Ayunga has reflected on a disappointing outing against Equatorial Guinea, which ended in a 1-0 defeat for the national team at the Emir Complex in Antalya, Turkey, on Friday.
“Frustrated with the result. Losing 1-0, of course,” Ayunga said. “We haven’t had a chance to review if it was a penalty or not, as it looked 50/50 in the moment.”

“I think as a team defensively we were quite good, obviously they had a number of shots but other than that, the only real chance they had was the penalty.”
At the same time, the striker who marks a return to the team after missing the last two international Call ups has regretted the failure by the team to convert goal scoring opportunities
“For us, we need to make sure that we take our chances especially in the first half. We made a lot of good chances tonight. We had a good game plan, to seat deep and transition quickly when we recover the ball which we did.”
Harambee Stars created several opportunities in the opening half but failed to secure at least a goal in their opening match of the friendly series.
Ayunga, currently at Scottish side St Mirren, partnered Ryan Ogam in a twin striker setup and saw two of his efforts from close range saved in the first half.
He eventually had the ball in the back of the net, but was flagged for offside.

On his part Nairobi United defender, Kevin Otiende was elated to make his debut and featured for the whole game as Harambee Stars succumbed to the defeat
” My first call up and playing ninety minutes, it feels great. I have gotten great exposure on this stage and good experience playing with the senior players, many who I used to just see on the pitch but we have camped with them and trained together.”

Otiende will be hoping to build up on the maiden call up to try and dislodge Abud Omar and Eric Ouma in the pecking order at the national team.
The duo has been the go to choice at Left back for the last decade.
Up next for the Harambee Stars is a match against the reigning Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champions, Senegal.
The Lions of Teranga will play Kenya in an international friendly match on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at the Mardan Sports Complex in Antalya, Turkey.
