South Africa have included 4 players who featured in the 2025 Rugby Women’s World Cup in their Springbok Women’s Sevens squad for the 2025 Africa Women’s 7s tournament taking place from 15-16 November at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi, Kenya.
The quartet that helped South Africa qualify for the quarter final for the first time includes Nadine Roos, who will captain the squad, Zintle Mpupha, Byrhandré Dolf and Ayanda Malinga as the team aim to win the African title for a record-extending twelfth time.

Liske Lategan makes her comeback from a knee injury sustained late last year while Asisipho Plaatjies also makes a return having last played for the team at the HSBC SVNS Cape Town in December 2023.
The other players Shiniqwa Lamprecht, Leigh Fortuin, Simamkele Namba, Patience Mokone and Maria Tshiremba are back having played in the team’s last outing at the HSBC SVNS Play-Off tournament held in Los Angeles in May this year.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, Springbok 7s legend Cecil Afrika, who will step in as the head coach in place of Renfred Dazel, expressed the huge task ahead as South Africa need to win.
“There is massive pressure on us and we all know what is at stake, but we are all in in to make it to the next stage, which will be Challenger 3 in January,” said Afrika.

“This tournament will also be an ideal opportunity to get our systems going again after a break in tournament play. We hope to lay a solid foundation, so when we do get the desired result, we will be ready for the next challenge.”

South Africa are the top seeds and have been placed in Pool A alongside Zimbabwe and Mauritius.
