Kakamega Homeboyz secured their first win of the season after defeating Nairobi City Stars 2-0 at Mumias Sports Complex on Wednesday.
Goals from Oliver Majak and Moses Shumah earned the 2023 FKF Cup champions three points just days after the dismissal of their head coach Ken Kenyatta.
The match began with an early breakthrough in the 6th minute as Ambrose Sifuna delivered a brilliant cross to Majak who tapped it in to give Homeboyz the lead.
Just a minute later, Nairobi City Stars were awarded a controversial penalty after Yuto Kusaba was fouled in the box, but James Ssetuba made a crucial save to deny the visitors an equalizer.
Just before halftime, Moses Shumah doubled the lead with a stunning finish, assisted once again by Sifuna.
The second half saw both teams create opportunities, but the score remained unchanged, extending City Stars’ winless streak this season to five games (D2 L3).
At Gusii Stadium, Sofapaka ended their winless run with a 1-0 victory over Shabana.
Douglas Ochoko scored the only goal in the third minute, giving Batoto Ba Mungu three crucial points in their sixth match of the season while Shabana’s winless run persisted.
